Topic: Homophobia in the Black Community
Homophobia is one of the many problems in the Black community that often gets swept under the rug. However, it is a problem that can lead to increased rates of homelessness, incarceration, and death of young Black people. The purpose of this project is to open the minds of Black people, specifically the older generation (our parents) and to inform the younger generations (mine and younger) of the detrimental impact that homophobia has on our community.

About Me
Hey, I'm Shae! I'm 19 years old and a first-year Psych major with a minor in Women and Gender Studies (WGST). I chose this topic because it is literally my life story. As a young, queer, Black girl, I kinda have the odds stacked against me but I allow that to empower me. Standing up to homophobic microaggressions is something I do like it's my job because, in a way, it is. While I hold marginalized identities, I use the privilege that I do possess to try and help change or broaden people's perspective of the LGBTQ+ community and stand up for people whose voices have been silenced. In the future, I hope to open my own practice specifically for the youth of color in the LGBTQ+ community.
